The U.S. Department of Defense said on Monday that the U.S. has transferred 11 Yemeni detainees from the Guantanamo Bay detention camp to Oman in a major resettlement operation, reducing the prison population to just 15 people.
The U.S. military said in a statement that “the U.S. appreciates the willingness of the government of Oman and other partners to support ongoing U.S. efforts focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantanamo 1 Bay detention facility.”
