Houthis Claim the Capture of a British Spy Cell
Yemen Monitor/ Sana’a/ Exclusive:
The Houthi armed group announced on Monday the capture of a “spy cell” that it alleged was working for British and Saudi intelligence.
Houthi media outlets quoted the group’s intelligence agency as claiming to have “thwarted hostile activities” by the British intelligence agency MI6 and the Saudi intelligence service.
They noted that “elements belonging to a British spy network were captured during December 2024.”
The group claimed that international intelligence agencies had sought to intensify their hostile activities in an attempt to create a target list.
They indicated that British intelligence, in cooperation and coordination with Saudi intelligence, had “recruited, trained, and deployed intelligence agents.”
They said that “the recruitment of elements was aimed at targeting strategic assets, most notably monitoring and surveilling sites and facilities belonging to the missile force and drones.”
The Houthis have kidnapped activists and aid workers over the past year. In 2024, they released a series of confessions of what they claimed were confessions of cells working with US intelligence, which were widely condemned as having been obtained under torture and related to their legal work.
