Yemen Monitor/ Muscat/ Exclusive:

The United Nations on Sunday urged the Houthi armed group to take steps to pave the way for a political process in Yemen.

The office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stated in an X post that “Grundberg concluded a visit to Muscat where he met with Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Khalifa al-Harthi and a number of senior Omani officials, and discussed with them joint efforts to enhance peace in Yemen.”

The statement added that “Grundberg also met with Mohammed Abdulsalam (head of the Houthi negotiating delegation) and urged him to implement measures that may help to pave the way for a political process.”

The UN envoy’s office emphasized that “Grundberg stressed the importance of de-escalation – including the immediate and unconditional release of detainees from among UN staff, civil society, and diplomatic missions – as essential to demonstrate commitment to peace efforts.”
