Egypt Denies Israeli Reports of Preparations for Military Intervention Against Houthis
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
A senior Egyptian official on Sunday denied reports in Israeli media about the Egyptian military’s preparations for military intervention against the Houthi group in Yemen.
The Egyptian source told Cairo News Channel that “such (Israeli) reports and the misleading information they contain have no basis in truth,” following the publication of several Hebrew media reports on the matter.
Israel’s Channel 14 reported on Sunday that Egypt is intensifying its preparations to carry out a military operation against the Houthis in response to their continued attacks in the Red Sea, and the significant damage they have caused to the Suez Canal.
The channel claimed that the Egyptian army is conducting extensive preparations, including air strikes, while intensive training is underway in the Libyan desert to ensure the readiness of warplanes and special forces.
Several Hebrew reports stated that external pressures and national interests have pushed Egypt to participate more actively in the Red Sea conflict, especially after its economy suffered significant losses due to Houthi attacks.
Since late October 2023, the Houthis have been carrying out a series of attacks on Israeli ships and ships heading to Israeli ports via the Red Sea, prompting US and European intervention to stop these attacks through successive airstrikes on sites and facilities they say belong to the Houthis.
