Israeli Media: US to Intensify Its Airstrikes in Yemen
Yemen Monitor/Washington/Exclusive:
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported on Friday that the US has informed the Israeli occupation that it intends to intensify its strikes in Yemen.
The Hebrew authority added that the administration of US President Joe Biden has assured Israel of its intention to increase strikes in Yemen.
“Washington said it intends to strike targets linked to the missiles that are constantly launched towards Israel,” according to what the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported from its source.
On Thursday, the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz reported that the Israeli occupation is intensifying intelligence gathering operations in Yemen.
Israel is preparing to engage fully against the Houthi group in Yemen, according to security officials from the occupation as reported by the British newspaper The Times on Tuesday.
On Monday, Israel presented its case to the United Nations Security Council to launch a comprehensive attack on Houthi forces in Yemen, claiming that the Iranian-backed Yemeni group now represents a well-armed terrorist army that threatens not only the regional economy but the entire global system.
The Houthis have escalated their attacks against Israel in recent weeks following the ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah. The White House said on Friday that US strikes against the Houthis would continue as long as the Iranian-backed group remains capable of threatening shipping lanes and Israel.
The Houthis have targeted more than 200 commercial ships with missiles and drones since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023. They seized one ship and sank two in the campaign, which also killed four sailors. Coalition forces led by the US have also intercepted other missiles and drones in the Red Sea or failed to reach their targets, which also included Western military vessels.
In response, the US and Britain have been carrying out a campaign of airstrikes against Iranian-backed Houthi militants since January 11. As a result, the Houthis announced the expansion of their operations to include US and British ships. The Israeli occupation has also launched four attacks in Yemen targeting the country’s infrastructure.
