Russia: Israeli-US Attack on Yemen is ‘Aggression’ Against a Sovereign State
Yemen Monitor/New York/Exclusive:
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, on Tuesday described the military actions carried out by Israel and the US-led coalition in Yemen as a deliberate escalation and “aggression against a sovereign state,” rather than self-defense.
Nebenzia added during a UN Security Council session that “the Israeli strikes on Yemen are a disproportionate response to the attack launched by the Houthi group in Yemen from the Ansar Allah movement and deserve condemnation.”
The Russian official affirmed that his country calls on all parties involved in aggressive actions against Yemen to exercise restraint and refrain from escalating steps.
He stressed the need to take measures to protect Yemeni civilians and humanitarian workers.
Earlier, Israel bombed Sana’a airport, killing six people and injuring 40 others, including a member of the crew of a UN plane carrying the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN confirmed that the information in the media stating that the Israeli military attack on Yemeni ports was pre-planned is worrying.
He said that in recent days, “Yemen has been subjected to real aggression from the air,” and the US and Great Britain, which Israel, with their support, launched an attack, including on Sana’a airport, put the UN delegation headed by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros, in danger.
