Israel Issues ‘Final Warning’ to the Houthis
Yemen Monitor/New York/Exclusive:
The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations issued what he called a “final warning” on Monday to Houthi militias in Yemen, backed by Iran, to stop their missile attacks on Israel. He said that otherwise, they risk the same “miserable fate” as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad if they persist in attacks.
This came in a speech by the Israeli ambassador, Danny Danon, to the Security Council during a session discussing Houthi attacks on the occupation.
The Israeli ambassador, Danny Danon, also warned Tehran that Israel has the ability to strike any target in the Middle East, including Iran, adding that Israel will not tolerate attacks by Iran’s proxies.
The Houthis have repeatedly launched drones and missiles towards Israel, in what they described as acts of solidarity with Palestinians who are under Israeli fire in Gaza.
Danny Danon said: “To the Houthis, perhaps you haven’t noticed what has happened in the Middle East over the past year. Well, let me remind you what happened to Hamas, to Hezbollah, to Assad, and to all those who tried to destroy us. Let this be your final warning. This is not a threat. It is a promise. You will share the same miserable fate.”
Danon said in statements made to reporters before the meeting: “Israel will defend its people. And if a distance of 2000 kilometers is not enough to separate our children from terrorism, let me assure you that it will not be enough to protect their terrorism from our power.”
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the Houthis that Israel has “only just begun” following Israeli strikes on multiple targets in Yemeni infrastructure, including Sana’a airport, ports on the country’s west coast, and two power stations.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said he was about to board a plane at the airport when it was attacked by Israel. He added that one of the plane’s crew was injured.
