South Korea Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Anti-Houthi Popular Resistance

South Korean Ambassador, Do Kai Kong, praised the role played by the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance against the Houthis in Yemen, reaffirming his country’s position in support of Yemen’s unity and legitimate authority.
This came during a virtual meeting held today, Wednesday, with the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance, Sheikh Hamoud Saeed Al-Mekhlafi.
Ambassador Kai Kong expressed his country’s interest in strengthening cooperation with the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance, stressing South Korea’s role as a non-permanent member of the Security Council and chair of the Yemen sanctions committee, to advance the peace and stability process in the region.
For his part, Al-Mekhlafi praised the support provided by South Korea to Yemen, especially in the fields of humanitarian and development aid, noting the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Al-Mekhlafi highlighted “the national and political role of the Resistance Council, affirming that “the council seeks to achieve a lasting and sustainable peace in Yemen despite the intransigence of the Houthi group.”
The Chairman of the Council also provided a briefing on the humanitarian activities implemented by the council in the medical and relief fields, through initiatives such as the Arab Council for Prostheses and the Professionalism Institute, as well as support programs directed at more than a thousand people with disabilities.
A number of members of the council’s political body and the head of foreign relations attended the meeting, where views were exchanged on the humanitarian situation and political developments in the country.
