Taiz Teachers Threaten Nationwide Strike if Government Ignores Salary Demands
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni Teachers’ Syndicate in Taiz Governorate has given the Yemeni government one week to pay November’s salaries, threatening to launch a comprehensive strike in education across the governorate.
In a statement, the syndicate announced, “a call to all male and female teachers and educators in general to wear red armbands while performing their duties in their schools and workplaces for a week starting from Saturday, 12/21/2024.”
The statement added, “Unless the salaries of teachers and educators for the month of November are paid by the end of Thursday, 12/26/2024, a complete work stoppage will be implemented in all schools and educational facilities in Taiz Governorate until the November salary is paid while remaining at the workplace.”
The syndicate demanded the payment of a cost-of-living allowance, similar to what teachers and educators have received in a number of liberated governorates.
The syndicate held the leadership of the local and central authorities responsible for any damage that may result from these measures, as they were forced to do so due to their failure to pay the salaries of teachers and educators.
