The Saudi Project MASAM for demining in Yemen announced on Tuesday the removal of nearly half a million mines and explosive devices planted by the Houthis in various parts of Yemen since 2018.
Osama Al-Qusaibee, Director-General of the MASAM project, said in a statement that 472,688 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices have been removed since the project’s launch in 2018 until December 13.
He pointed out that the project’s engineering teams have removed 312,075 unexploded ordnance and 8,170 improvised explosive devices since the beginning of the project, noting that the teams have also removed 145,758 anti-tank mines and 6,685 anti-personnel mines.
He explained that MASAM project’s engineering teams have managed to clear 62,808,362 square meters of Yemeni land that was mined with mines, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices.
