“X” Removes Verification Badge from Houthi Leader Sanctioned by the US

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The social media platform “X” has removed the blue verification badge from the account of a Houthi leader who has been sanctioned by the US.

Abdul Qadir al-Murtada, the head of the Houthi Prisoners Affairs Committee, said that the X platform has removed the blue checkmark from his account.

He added, “Due to the recent US sanctions, the blue checkmark has been removed from my account, and there is a possibility that the account will be deleted entirely. This is the maximum effort that the US can do.”

Last Monday evening, the US Treasury announced in a statement, “Imposing sanctions on al-Murtada and the Prisoners Affairs Committee that he heads, after his direct involvement in torturing prisoners and other forms of cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment of detainees in the group’s prisons, which continue to hold individuals who have exercised their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
