IRGC Commander: We Have Not Lost Our Regional Arms
Yemen Monitor/ Tehran/ Agencies:
In light of Bashar al-Assad’s fall, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hussein Salami, stated, “Our forces were the last to leave Syria. It was illogical to involve the IRGC and Basij forces in another country while that country’s army was merely a spectator.”
He added, “We wanted to help, but all roads to Syria were closed.”
Salami further emphasized, “Some in political and intellectual circles, as well as among the general public, are promoting the idea that the Iranian regime has lost its regional arms, but this is untrue. The regime has not lost its arms,” as reported by the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency.
He stated, “Even now, the paths to support the ‘Resistance Front’ are open. Support is not limited to Syria alone, and the situation there may gradually take a new form.”
Salami continued, “We cannot address multiple issues on the global and regional levels with fixed and rigid strategies.”
Salami asserted that the recent events in Syria have served as an impetus to strengthen the resistance to expel the US from the region and that liberating Al-Quds is a necessity to preserve Syria’s territorial unity and sovereignty. He also strongly condemned the exploitation of Syria’s unrest by the US and Israel, as well as their attacks on its infrastructure.
It is worth noting that Iranian President masoud pezeshkian had previously emphasized the need to preserve Syria’s unity and sovereignty, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that “the failure in Syria was due to the Syrian army’s inability to withstand.”
