Yemeni Army Announces Foiling of Houthi Infiltration Attempts in Taiz

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni army announced on Thursday that its forces had foiled three infiltration attempts by the Houthi group in Taiz Governorate (southwest of the country).

Taiz axis media center stated in a post on its Facebook page today that “the Houthi group continues its escalation on the battlefronts and targeting civilians in the city of Taiz, coinciding with shelling military sites and residential areas with drones.”

The center indicated that two Houthi elements were killed and others were injured during the army’s response to the infiltration attempts.

It added, “Coincidentally, army forces targeted artillery positions of the Houthi militia that shelled various areas of residential neighborhoods in the city and in the western countryside of the governorate.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said that “recent violence in Taiz, including the deadly drone strike on a market in Maqbna, highlights the urgent need for all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians.”

The UN envoy affirmed that “such incidents highlight the urgent need for a ceasefire agreement.”
