CENTCOM Announces Repelling Houthi Attack on US Ships in the Gulf of Aden

US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Wednesday that it had successfully repelled an attack by the Houthi group targeting US ships as they transited the Gulf of Aden.

In a statement on X, CENTCOM said: “The US Navy destroyers USS Stockdale and USS Truxtun successfully defended against an attack involving multiple weapons launched by the Houthis while the ships were transiting the Gulf of Aden on December 9 and 10.”

According to the statement, “The destroyers were escorting three US-owned and operated commercial vessels flying the US flag.”

The statement indicated that the attack did not result in any casualties to the commercial ships or US Navy vessels.

It added: “The destroyers successfully engaged and defeated multiple single-use air systems and an anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM), ensuring the safety of the ships and their crews, as well as the civilian ships and their crews.”

It further stated: “These actions reflect US Central Command’s enduring commitment to protecting US personnel, regional partners, and international shipping from Houthi attacks supported by Iran.”

On Tuesday, the Houthi group announced that it had targeted with missiles and drones 3 US supply ships after leaving the port of Djibouti, as well as two US destroyers in the Gulf of Aden.
