Commenting on Syrian Developments, Yemeni Diplomat Asks: Has the Message Reached the Houthis?
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemeni politician and diplomat, and Yemen’s former ambassador to London, Yassin Saeed Numan, commented on the rapid developments in Syria, where major cities have fallen to Syrian opposition factions after nearly 15 years of the Syrian revolution against Al- Assad regime.
In a post on his Facebook account, Numan questioned whether the leader of the Houthi group had understood the message from the events and developments in Syria, asking, “Has the message reached the Houthis, and is it time for him to consider sparing Yemen further rounds of blood and destruction?”
He added, “The Syrian regime has separated itself from its people, separated itself from the national army that protects the state, and dragged Syria out of the Arab fold, handing over its sovereign decision to Iran, which has used Syria as a station to manage its expansionist project in the region.”
He continued, “As for the regime’s protection, Al-Assad handed it over to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Russia, and security agencies that have been isolating it from the political and social reality, and imposing choices on it that are objectively inconsistent with the country’s need for comprehensive political reforms, and understandings that take into account the huge mines that have begun to explode with sectarian, ethnic, and ideological sparks, not only against the regime but also against the Syrian state after it was withdrawn from its Arab environment to have its fate decided by regional and international forces.”
Since November 27, Syrian opposition factions have managed to control the governorates of Aleppo and Idlib (north), Hama, parts of Homs governorate (central), and the center of Daraa governorate (south), and have also announced the beginning of “encircling” the capital, Damascus.
