UKMTO Reports Maritime Incident West of Yemen

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) announced on Friday that a maritime incident had occurred west of Yemen.
In a brief statement, the agency said the incident took place 105 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah, without providing further details.
On Thursday, the European Union Naval Force in the Red Sea (EUNAVFOR MED – Sophia) reported that the crew of the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship “M/V SEA STAR” had been rescued in the Red Sea after they sent out a distress signal.
“All crew members aboard the M/V SEA STAR have been rescued and will be transferred to Djibouti, the nearest safe port,” EUNAVFOR MED – Sophia said in a Facebook post.
The ship had reported an engine room flooding and the master requested assistance, forcing the 20-member crew to abandon ship.
The Iran-aligned Houthi group has been launching attacks on international shipping lanes near Yemen since November 2023, claiming they are in support of Palestinians in the ongoing war in Gaza Strip against Israeli aggression.
