Houthi Announces Enactment of “Salary Distribution” Law
Yemen Monitor/ Sana’a/ Exclusive:
The Houthi armed group announced on Tuesday a new law containing a temporary mechanism for disbursing the salaries of government employees in areas under the control of the armed group.
The Houthi-controlled House of Representatives (which is not internationally recognized) stated that it had voted “on the exceptional temporary mechanism to support the state employees’ payroll and resolve the problem of small depositors, in light of the report of the special committee tasked with studying it.”
The details of the new law are not yet known. However, sources in the Houthi House of Representatives told “Yemen Monitor” earlier about some of its details before approval, which increases taxes on public services provided to citizens in exchange for paying half of the salary every three months, and removing thousands of government employees from their positions by adopting the latest civil service employee roster.
A member of parliament told “Yemen Monitor” on Tuesday that some articles in the law had been amended, without providing further details. However, he indicated that some of the previous problems related to military retirees had been overcome.
