Yemeni Government Welcomes Canada’s Listing of Houthis as Terrorist Entity
Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday its welcome of the decision to classify the Houthi group as a terrorist entity on the Canadian list.
In a statement, the ministry expressed its appreciation for the Canadian government’s decision to classify the Houthi militias as a terrorist entity under Canadian criminal law, which contributes to addressing the threats posed by terrorist militias to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.
The statement added that while expressing the Yemeni government’s appreciation for the Canadian government’s position and support for the Yemeni people, it calls on the international community to take similar steps to support the Yemeni Republic in confronting the terrorism of these militias, whose threat has extended to international navigation, the global economy, and international security and peace.
Yesterday, Monday, Canada added the armed Houthi group to its list of terrorist entities, following in the footsteps of allies such as the US and New Zealand.
The group has launched numerous attacks on civilian and naval vessels in the Red Sea since November 2023, contributing to regional disturbances amid the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.
