A Report Predicts Continued Houthi Maritime Attacks Until Late December

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

An international report predicted on Tuesday that more maritime incidents and associated disruptions would occur in the waters around the Arabian Peninsula until at least late December amid heightened tensions.

Houthi attacks have continued to decline since September, likely due to a decrease in targeting opportunities as shipping companies avoid the Red Sea. However, it is also possible that US, British, and Israeli airstrikes have had an impact.

The report by Crisis24 added: While the Houthis targeted several ships passing through the Red Sea in November, there were no confirmed casualties or reported damage. In the first attack in November, the US destroyers USS Spruance and Stockdale were targeted with multiple projectiles as they passed through Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

The ships destroyed all projectiles, and there were no casualties or damage. The attack came after US and British aircraft conducted airstrikes on targets in Yemen a few days earlier.

USS Stockdale was targeted again between November 30 and December 1, along with USS O’Kane, while transiting the Gulf of Aden, but all projectiles were destroyed.

Other ships reported projectiles falling into the surrounding waters throughout November. On November 17-18, the Panamanian-flagged bulk carrier Andalou S was targeted in two attacks near Bab el-Mandeb Strait, about 26 nautical miles (48 km) from the Yemeni coastal city of Mokha.

The ship was not damaged, and no one on board was injured. Prior to the attack, the Andalou S was contacted by radio by someone claiming to be from the Yemeni authorities, asking the ship to turn around, but the ship did not comply with these orders.

US and British airstrikes against Houthi targets continued throughout November. The US and UK carried out multiple airstrikes in various locations in Yemen. The strikes targeted areas suspected of being Houthi weapons stores and bases.

Additionally, Israeli forces reported shooting down drones and/or missiles from the Houthis and the Iraqi Resistance in the northern Red Sea throughout October, likely targeting Eilat or cities in central Israel.
