Yemen Monitor/ Sana’a/ Agencies:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed on Monday that more than 20,000 people have been internally displaced in Yemen since the beginning of 2024, despite the fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April 2022.
The UN agency said in a report tracking the displaced that it had recorded 3,411 families, consisting of 20,466 individuals, who had been displaced at least once between January 1 and November 30, 2024.
The organization indicated that most of the families displaced since the beginning of the year were recorded in Marib Governorate (east), totaling 1,506 families comprising 9,036 individuals, followed by Hodeidah (west) with 799 families (4,794 individuals), then Taiz (center) which witnessed the displacement of 762 families (4,572 individuals), Lahj (south) with 281 families (1,686 individuals), and Al-Dhalea (south) with 50 families (300 individuals), in addition to 8 families (48 individuals) in Shabwa (southeast) and 5 families (30 individuals) in Hadhramaut (southeast).
The organization said that economic factors linked to the war were the main reason for 55% of displaced families leaving their original areas, while security concerns and threats pushed 45% of displaced families to leave their places of residence.
