Yemen Participates in Kuwait International Book Fair
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Yemen, represented by the General Authority for Books, Publishing, and Distribution, is participating in the 47th Kuwait International Book Fair, which kicked off at the Kuwait International Exhibition Center.
The fair, held under the theme “The World in a Book,” features 544 publishing houses from 31 countries, including 19 Arab and 12 foreign countries.
In this regard, Yahya Al-Thalaiya, Chairman of the General Authority for Books, said in a press statement that Yemen’s keenness to continue participating in the Kuwait Fair comes from its recognition of the distinguished relations between the Republic of Yemen and the State of Kuwait in the publishing and libraries sector.
The Chairman of the General Authority for Books explained that the authority’s participation as a single pavilion representing Yemen showcases more than 500 titles from the most important titles of the Yemeni library that interest the Arab reader and the Kuwaiti intellectual, especially in the field of the history of Yemen and the ancient, medieval, and modern Arabian Peninsula.
Al-Thalaiya pointed out that the State of Kuwait was the first supporter of the Yemeni library since the beginning of the republican era, as Sana’a witnessed the opening of the National Library in 1970, which was funded by a generous grant from the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, and Aden witnessed the opening of the National Library “Badib Library” in 1980, and they are the most prominent cultural institutions until today.
