Linderking Stresses Steps to Confront Houthis in Riyadh and Muscat
Yemen Monitor/Washington/Exclusive:
US Special Envoy for Yemen Tim Lenderking traveled to Muscat, Oman, and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25, according to the US State Department.
In a statement following the visit, the State Department said Lenderking emphasized steps to confront Houthi attacks, including identifying and intercepting illicit goods and weapons from Iran and deterring Houthi cooperation with malicious regional and international actors.
According to the statement, seen by Yemen Monitor, Special Envoy Lenderking met with his counterparts to discuss the need to halt Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
It added: “These attacks continue to endanger the lives of civilian mariners, harm regional economies, and increase obstacles to the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to Yemenis and those in need across the region.”
The US State Department said Special Envoy Lenderking “highlighted the United States’ deep concern over the Houthis’ continued and unlawful detention of UN staff, humanitarian workers, and embassy personnel.”
He expressed US dismay over the Houthis’ plan to refer some detainees to a sham “security court” known for issuing death sentences against political prisoners based on coerced confessions.
