Houthis Express Readiness for Comprehensive Prisoner Exchange with Yemeni Government

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Houthi group announced on Monday evening its readiness to engage in a comprehensive prisoner exchange with the Yemeni government.

Abdul Qader al-Murtada, head of the Houthi Prisoners’ Affairs Committee, made the statement in an interview with the group’s “Al-Thawra Net” website.

Al-Murtada said, “We are ready and prepared to implement all agreements signed under the auspices of the United Nations without any conditions. We also declare our readiness and willingness to enter into a comprehensive deal that includes all prisoners from all parties without exception.”

He called on “sheikhs and social figures who have the ability to act as local mediators to move in this file to end the suffering of prisoners in any way.”

Al-Murtada pointed out that “negotiations are ongoing through continuous communication and direct meetings with the office of the UN envoy, but no progress has been made in the negotiations since the last round in Muscat last July.”
