Health authorities in the eastern Yemeni governorate of Mahra announced on Saturday the recording of the first case of chickenpox.
Local authorities in Mahra stated that “a specialized medical team from the Epidemiological Surveillance and Rapid Response Department at the governorate’s Ministry of Health and Population conducted a field visit to Nushtoon port to assess the chickenpox case after receiving a report from the relevant authorities.”
The medical team examined the case, conducted a physical examination of the contacts, and confirmed that the patient is stable and responding to treatment, which is reassuring regarding the health situation.
Physical examinations revealed that the contacts do not have any symptoms or signs of chickenpox and are in good health.
Salah Bader, director of epidemiological surveillance in Mahra, emphasized the importance of vigilance and cooperation among all concerned parties to ensure the safety of the community and limit the spread of diseases.
Chickenpox is a highly contagious viral disease that affects the skin and mucous membranes, such as the conjunctiva and the inside of the mouth. It is accompanied by severe itching and may lead to complications such as meningitis and encephalitis ten days after the onset of the disease.
