On the First Anniversary of the Red Sea Crisis, US Warns of Russian Involvement

Yemen Monitor/ Washington/ Exclusive:

As the first anniversary of the Houthis’ attacks on the Red Sea approaches, the US has warned of Russia’s involvement in the war.

The US government has stated that Russia has become more involved in the security situation in the Red Sea, but not for stabilization purposes.

US Special Envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking told Business Insider that Russia is in talks with the Houthis about providing them with support, adding that “there is a fairly serious level of engagement.”

Lenderking said, “We are particularly concerned about the type of equipment that would enable the Houthis to be more precise in targeting US and other ships in the region. The fact that the Russians might be assisting in this effort is diabolical.”

According to US media, Houthi officials have likely met with Russian representatives in Iranian-mediated talks twice this year. The group already receives extensive assistance from Iran, including missile equipment and targeting intelligence.
