Australia Funds WFP Emergency Operations in Yemen
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced that it has received $5.8 million from Australia to support its operations in Yemen.
In a post on X, the program stated, “Cash transfers provided by WFP are a lifeline for families in Yemen, empowering them to access basic needs.”
It added, “Thanks to a contribution of AU$9 million (US$5.8 million) from Australia, WFP will continue to support the most vulnerable families in securing food and essential commodities in Yemen,” without providing further details.
The WFP has repeatedly complained about declining humanitarian funding in Yemen, leading to a reduction in the size of aid.
According to previous UN reports, nearly 80% of Yemen’s population of 32 million people require some form of assistance.
