Yemeni Government Urges UN Mission to Take Firm Stance on Houthi Arms Smuggling

The Yemeni government has called on the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) to adopt a firm stance against the smuggling of weapons to the Houthi group.

This came during a meeting between the Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, and the head of the UNMHA, retired Major General Michael Lollesgaard.

During the meeting, the Yemeni Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of the mission’s work in supporting the government’s efforts to remove the mines that have been extensively and randomly planted by the Houthis in Hodeidah.

The Foreign Minister was briefed by the UN official on the mission’s activities and issues related to its mandate, as well as the progress of aligning its work with relevant UN resolutions.

For his part, the head of the UN mission expressed his appreciation for the cooperation and support of the government and local authorities in the liberated districts of Hodeidah.

Michael Lollesgaard affirmed the mission’s commitment to working in accordance with its mandate and its readiness to address all challenges and issues in partnership with the Yemeni government.
