U.S. Ambassador Meets with Prominent Yemeni Sheikh
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The U.S. Ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, held talks on Thursday with a prominent tribal sheikh in the country, coinciding with the ongoing military escalation in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea.
The U.S. Embassy stated that Ambassador Stephen Fagin discussed with Sheikh Mohammed bin Naji al-Shaif the latest developments in Yemen and the humanitarian challenges faced by Yemenis due to the malicious actions of the Houthis.
The statement added: “The US reaffirms its commitment to working with the Yemeni government to address the economic, security, and political challenges facing Yemen.”
Sheikh al-Shaif is one of the most prominent tribal sheikhs in Yemen, a member of the General Committee of the General People’s Congress, and a senior party leader.
Al-Shaif is known for his longstanding relations with Saudi Arabia. He distanced himself from Saleh and chose Riyadh when he and Saleh fell out during the party’s partnership with the Houthis.
