US described the formation of the National Coalition of Yemeni Parties in Aden on Wednesday as a pivotal moment in Yemen’s political history.
In a statement posted on the US Embassy’s X account, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) office said that the US ambassador attended an event yesterday with the Yemeni Prime Minister, “launching a new political bloc composed of 22 Yemeni political parties and groups to support the Yemeni government.”
The statement referred to a series of meetings held by Yemeni parties since last April, sponsored by USAID and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), where Yemeni parties agreed “to form a broad national bloc committed to formulating a shared vision for a peaceful Yemen with respect for political diversity in Yemen.”
It mentioned that “representatives of the parties and political components reviewed yesterday the basic regulations and founding principles of the National Coalition of Parties and Political Components, which were recently approved, and will work to enhance effective governance, peace, and stability in Yemen.”
In the meeting, the US Ambassador to Yemen, Fagen, emphasized the importance of the new bloc, stating, “Today represents a pivotal moment in Yemen’s political history.”
The US ambassador said, “These 22 entities have shown everyone, and most importantly the Yemeni people, that there is hope for a peaceful and prosperous Yemen, led by Yemenis for Yemenis,” according to the statement.
Yesterday, Tuesday, Yemeni political components announced in the temporary capital, Aden, the establishment of the National Coalition of Parties and Political Components, the approval of the coalition’s organizational regulations, and the election of Dr. Ahmed bin Daghr as the president of the Supreme Council, with his presidency being rotational.
The coalition affirmed in its founding statement its commitment to the constitution and current laws, the nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, political pluralism, the peaceful transfer of power, justice, equal citizenship, consensus, partnership, and transparent work.
The coalition stressed the restoration of the state and the unification of national forces to confront the rebellion and coup as the most prominent goals it seeks to achieve, in addition to resolving the southern issue as a primary issue and a key to addressing national issues, and placing a special framework for it in the final political solution. The founding statement also emphasized preserving the republican system within the framework of a federal state, the sovereignty of the republic, its independence, and the integrity of its territory.
