Aden Power Plant Shuts Down Due to Fuel Shortage

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom

News sources reported that the main Petro Masila power plant went off on Monday afternoon due to a fuel shortage.

Sources indicated that power outages for citizens have increased significantly, amid popular demands for the government to address the collapse of public services.

Government spending on electricity in Aden accounts for 60% of its total spending on the sector in all liberated governorates (from the Houthis). Moreover, the cost of generating electricity in the city alone reaches at least $55 million per month, while Aden’s electricity revenues do not cover even one day of operation, according to a previous Yemeni government report.
