The Yemeni government expressed deep concern on Monday over the latest developments in the Republic of Sudan.
A statement from the Yemeni Foreign Ministry condemned the violence that occurred in several villages east of Gezira State in central Sudan, resulting in civilian casualties, injuries, and displacement, in violation of international humanitarian law and norms.
The Yemeni Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of returning to peaceful negotiations to achieve security, stability, and territorial integrity for the Sudanese people.
Gezira State in Sudan has witnessed a sharp escalation of military conflict, as the Rapid Support Forces launched repeated attacks following the defection of commander Abu Aqila Kikl and his joining the Sudanese army. These attacks have resulted in dozens of casualties, according to local sources, amid international condemnation and mutual accusations between the warring parties of responsibility for the deteriorating situation.
Since the announcement of the defection of the Rapid Support Forces commander in Gezira, Abu Aqila Kikl, and his joining the Sudanese army, reports of intensive military operations have been circulating, particularly in the cities of “Tambul” and “Rafa’a” and their surroundings in the east of the state, before the battles spread to the west as well.
