The US military said on Saturday that American B-52 bombers have arrived in the Middle East, a day after Washington announced their deployment to the region as a warning to Iran.
CENTCOM said in a social media post, “Strategic B-52 Stratofortress bombers from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base have arrived in the US Central Command area of responsibility.”
On Friday, the US announced the deployment of new military capabilities to the Middle East in a move it said was “in defense of Israel” and to warn Iran, according to a statement issued by the Pentagon.
These new military capabilities include ballistic missile defense systems, fighter jets, and B-52 bombers.
The statement said that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin “continues to make it clear that if Iran, its partners, or proxies seize this moment to target US personnel or interests in the region, the US will take all necessary measures to defend Americans.”
