Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Holds Houthis Fully Responsible for the Life and Safety of Journalist Al-Miyahi

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate expressed deep concern on Friday evening for the life of journalist Mohammed al-Miyahi, who has been forcibly disappeared in Houthi prisons for months.

In a statement, the syndicate said it was worried about the situation of the forcibly disappeared journalist Mohammed al-Miyahi, especially after his lawyer’s statement about his inability to find him with the de facto authority’s apparatus in Sana’a, which has been hiding him since last September 20 in difficult conditions of kidnapping and refusing to respond to the public prosecution’s directives to allow his family to visit him and reveal his fate and transfer his file to the prosecution.

The statement indicated that the judicial authorities affiliated with the Houthi group did not oblige the security and intelligence apparatus in Sana’a to disclose his place of detention or allow his family and lawyer to visit him, despite all the false rumors about his death, which caused indescribable harm to them.

It affirmed that it condemns and denounces in the strongest terms this repressive and arbitrary targeting of a defenseless journalist who expressed his opinion on an issue that concerns his society, holding the Houthi group fully responsible for the life and safety of journalist al-Miyahi.

It said that through the long series of kidnappings practiced by the Houthi group against journalists and opinion makers, the syndicate expresses its fear of the journalist al-Miyahi being subjected to torture and humiliation, calling on the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene to reveal the fate of journalist al-Miyahi and allow his family to visit him and work to release him.

Al-Miyahi was kidnapped on September 20 from his home by forces affiliated with the Houthi group in Sana’a who raided his home and confiscated some of the colleague’s belongings, and since then the circumstances of the kidnapping have been shrouded in disturbing secrecy.

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate renewed its calls for the release of journalist al-Miyahi and all kidnapped journalists, writers, and opinion makers.
