Al-Qaeda Attack Leaves Casualties in Southern Yemen

Yemen Monitor/ Aden/ Special:

A soldier was killed and four others were injured on Monday when Al-Qaeda attacked a military vehicle in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, as militants escalated their guerrilla warfare against government and pro-government forces.

A security source said that “Al-Qaeda armed men threw a hand grenade at a military vehicle belonging to the STC forces in Wadi Omiran,Modia district, northeast of Abyan Governorate, killing one soldier and injuring four others, including two civilians who were near the vehicle.”

The Al-Qaeda organization’s elements fled the scene after the attack.

Earlier this week, two soldiers were killed when Al-Qaeda armed men fired a shell at a vehicle transporting forces belonging to STC in Modia district.

In mid-October, a senior military commander in Shabwah Defense Forces, affiliated with the STC, was killed when a roadside bomb exploded in his car in Musina’a district of Shabwah Governorate, adjacent to Abyan.

Al-Qaeda appears to have changed its tactics from direct clashes with the forces to using roadside bombs and individual attacks on forces present in Abyan since the start of a campaign against the organization in 2023.
