Yemeni Central Bank Governor Undergoes Surgery in Germany
Yemen Monitor/ Berlin/ Exclusive:
Government sources reported on Monday that the Governor of the Yemeni Central Bank, Ahmed Ghalib Al-Maabqi, has undergone surgery to remove a colon tumor at a German hospital. The sources indicated that he is still under medical observation.
The newspaper “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed” quoted the sources as saying that the Governor’s absence from his duties may be prolonged due to health reasons.
The Central Bank has halted its weekly dollar auction since July 24th due to the depletion of foreign exchange reserves in previous auctions and the bank’s failure to secure new Saudi support in foreign currencies.
This comes amid the collapse of the Yemeni currency.
