The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned on Thursday the arrest of journalist Mohamed Abdulwahab Al-Yazidi, a correspondent for Al-Jumhuriya Channel in Aden, who was detained by security forces in the city last Monday.

In a statement, the syndicate said it had received a report from his colleagues, stating that the arrest was based on complaints filed by a political and military figure regarding old posts dating back more than four years.

The syndicate pointed out that this incident is a continuation of a series of harassment and persecution that Al-Yazidi has been subjected to over the past years, calling on the security authorities in Aden to investigate this incident and release him immediately.

The Journalists Syndicate renewed its call on the Yemeni government to stop the repeated violations targeting journalists in Aden and to ensure a safe environment for the practice of journalism and media work.

Journalist Al-Yazidi was arrested in the interim capital, Aden, based on direct instructions from a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, according to human rights and news sources.

Security agencies and forces affiliated with the STC control the city of Aden, which the internationally recognized government has made its interim capital.
