For a long time, Alrajaya population have had difficulty getting in and out of their vallage. There was no road helping people to move easley. Alrajaya village was inaccessible to reach by vehicles. So, the people were facing many problems because of that.Their daily routine was hard and the quality of their life was so bad that they couldn’t connected with other areas around their village easley. As a result of that position, Alrajaya population donated a larg sum of money to construct a route until they can pass on their village.

A few months later they cooperated with each other, the road was built by the community initiative that they made it.  Unlike many others,  Alrajaya people didn’t leave a plastic pollution when they were working. And, that was the unique thing of their initiative.

Community Initiative.

Since the war began in 2015, many people who are living in the rural areas have been starting to build roads and highways in their villages by many community initiatives. One of that initiatives was in Alrajaya district, which is 70 k.m from Taiz City.

This initiative have succeeded to collect 500 million rials from the population, and without helping from authorities or even from the government responsibles. The purpose of this initiative was to build a main road to connect the village with other areas around it. The road construction began in August 2023. Now it’s in the last phase.

Fares Algaberi, who is the chief of this initiative said, “we must have built this road until we can ease the people and vehicles movement to our village”. The initiative have already built and paved 1300 meters. More than 9 thousands people who are living in the village will take advantages of this road. “Previously, people had difficulty arriving and getting out of Alrajaya because there was no smooth road, but now it exists” fares talks.

No Plastic Pollution

Many people in Yemen used to collaborate with each other to cobble their roads as 61 percent of Yemeni population live in the countryside, according to The World Bank Open Data. People in Yemen made lots of community initiatives to pave and building their roads in all of their county.

Unlike many community initiatives, Alrajaya initiative was unique. It hasn’t had a plastic pollution. People hadn’t thrown the water bottles to the ground but they used it to decorate their road instead. “The purpose of that work to show a sort of commitment toward our environment”, fares told.

However, the data of UN estimated the amount of plastic pollution in Yemen at 10 percent. Saba bawzir, who is a researcher in the Environment Protection Authority said, that the plastic pollution has bad impact on the people, the environment and the plants.

The plastic pags and bottles remain on the ground for hundreds of years. And , as a result of that, people could have many health problems and diseases. In addition to that, the plants also have difficulty growing because of the chemicals materials are being existed in the plastic. Finally, when we looking at the dangerous effects of plastic pollution,we definitely will realize how useful Alrajaya initiative was.
