The Return of 95 Yemeni Fishermen After Eritrean Detention

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom

Ninety-five Yemeni fishermen, all from the coastal Hodeidah Governorate on the Red Sea in western Yemen, have returned home after being detained in Eritrean prisons.

Local sources reported that “95 Yemeni fishermen from Hodeidah Governorate arrived in the city of al-Khokha after the Eritrean authorities released them following their detention since the beginning of last week.” In recent months, several batches of Yemeni fishermen have been released from Eritrean prisons.

These fishermen frequently face arrests while carrying out their fishing activities.

Repeatedly, Eritrean authorities detain Yemeni fishermen during each fishing season, confiscating their boats, kidnapping, and torturing them without any intervention from the Emirati-backed joint forces tasked with coast guard duties and protecting Yemen’s territorial waters on the western coast.
