Rights Organization: Houthi Group Abducts 33 Celebrating Civilians of the 26 September Revolution
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom
The Musawh for Rights and Freedoms Organization announced on Saturday that it has documented the abduction of 33 civilians by the Houthi group in recent days in areas under their control, following calls to celebrate the anniversary of the 26 September Revolution.
In a statement, the organization condemned the “extensive abduction campaigns launched by the Houthis in recent days in the capital Sana’a and the governorates of Dhamar, Ibb, and Amran, as well as all areas under their control.”
According to the organization’s statement, the abduction campaign targeted politicians, journalists, human rights activists, and anyone calling for the celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the 26 September 1962 Revolution, which overthrew the Imamate rule in northern Yemen (a reference to the current Houthi regime).
The organization called for the immediate and unconditional release of all abductees, holding the Houthis fully responsible for their safety.
The organization considered these actions as confirmation of the authoritarian nature of the group, which seeks by all means and repressive practices to deter the Yemeni people from celebrating their revolution and suppress any signs of celebration.
In conclusion, Musawh called on the UN Secretary-General, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and all human rights organizations and bodies to exert real and effective pressure on the Houthis to stop these flagrant violations and ensure respect for human rights and freedom of expression in Yemen.
