Options to Encourage Houthis to Engage Seriously with Efforts to End Yemenis’ Suffering

The head of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad Al-Alimi, held discussions with U.S. Ambassador Stephen Fagin regarding options to push the Houthis to engage seriously with efforts to end the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Yemeni News Agency reported that the meeting addressed recent developments in the Yemeni situation, including the ongoing terrorist escalation by the Houthi group and their severe human rights violations.
It added that the head of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the U.S. Ambassador on the outcomes of recent diplomatic communications aimed at de-escalating the situation in Yemen and the region, as well as the proposed options to motivate the Houthis to engage seriously with regional and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and halt their destructive actions against the remaining state institutions.
The meeting also touched upon coordinated efforts with the international community for the release of UN employees and civil society leaders who are being held by Houthi group, as well as developmental interventions that include the protection of Yemen’s human heritage.
President Al-Alimi praised the appreciated efforts of the US in alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people and enhancing international mechanisms to intercept Iranian weapons shipments that threaten international peace and security.
Al-Alimi reaffirmed the council and government’s commitment to a fair peace approach in accordance with the nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references.
