UAE Efforts to Bridge the Gap Between Its Allies in Yemen
Yemen Monitor/Abu Dhabi/Exclusive:
Members of the Presidential Leadership Council, “Tareq Saleh” and “Aidrous al-Zubaidi,” held a meeting in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, to mend the rift that has widened since last year.
“Tareq Saleh” heads the National Resistance Forces stationed on the west coast, while “al-Zubaidi” heads the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which controls the temporary capital, Aden, and other southern governorates. Both are supported by the UAE.
The official media of both parties published the meeting and stated that it discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination to strengthen efforts to confront the Houthi group, which is classified as a terrorist organization, and extremist groups in all their forms.
Tensions between the National Resistance and the STC had escalated due to the latter’s refusal to raise the national flag and the presence of forces and figures affiliated with the National Resistance in Aden. Previously, the STC forces had stormed the residence of Tareq Saleh, forcing him to leave Aden for Mokha.
A responsible source said that “Tareq Saleh” is expected to return to Aden to attend meetings of the Presidential Leadership Council in the coming period and to enable him to stay there without being targeted by the STC forces.
The source spoke to “Yemen Monitor” on condition of anonymity.
