Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Sunday to make the Houthi group pay a “heavy price” following their targeting of Tel Aviv with a hypersonic missile.
Netanyahu stated at the start of his cabinet meeting, “The Houthis launched a ground-to-ground missile from Yemen at our territories this morning. They should know by now that we impose a heavy price for any attempt to harm us.”
Earlier, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced that their forces carried out a significant operation on Sunday targeting a military site in Jaffa with a hypersonic missile, while the Israeli occupation army opened an investigation into the delay in detecting and intercepting the missile.
Saree clarified that the missile traveled an estimated distance of 2,400 kilometers in just 11 and a half minutes as part of what he referred to as the fifth phase.
In contrast, the Israeli occupation army stated that a ground-to-ground missile launched from Yemen fell in an uninhabited wooded area east of Tel Aviv. Fragments of the missile were scattered over an area 6 kilometers from Ben Gurion Airport east of Tel Aviv.
They reported that the missile traveled approximately 2,000 kilometers and took about 15 minutes to fly, entering from the eastern border, affirming that the Air Force is investigating the cause of the delay in detecting and intercepting the missile.
The Israeli occupation police indicated that the missile fell in the town of Kfar Daniel, near Ben Gurion Airport, adding that the missile caused fires in wooded areas and material damage to a major train station near Modiin.
Sirens were activated in Tel Aviv and central Israel, prompting residents to rush into shelter.
Channel 12 reported that the missile forced hundreds of thousands of people in central Israeli cities to enter shelters for the first time in months, while the Israeli ambulance service reported that 9 people were injured during the rush to the shelters.
Channel 14 mentioned that a fire broke out at the Nesher Cement Factory in Al-Ramla coinciding with the fall of the missile launched from Yemen, indicating that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
In contrast, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades congratulated the operation by the Houthi group within Israeli-occupied territory, considering it a “qualitative shift” in the course of the battle.
Abu Ubaida, the official spokesperson for the al-Qassam Brigades, stated in tweets on his Telegram channel, “The nature of the weapon used in the operation and the quality of the target it aimed at, among other details shared with us by our brothers in Yemen, constitute a qualitative shift that will have important consequences in the course and outcomes of the Toophan Al-Aqsa battle.”
He emphasized in another tweet that “the Zionist entity, which is still mired in the quagmire of Gaza, and which today fails alongside its allies to intercept a single missile, is too weak to expand the war to new fronts that will bring it thousands of missiles and many surprises.” He asserted that “such a foolish step will mean that Netanyahu is leading his decaying entity toward an impending disaster
