Mohamed Abdullah al-Yadoumi, the head of the Supreme Council of the Yemeni Islah Party, stated on Thursday that the party has paid a hefty price for standing on the right side of history.
In a televised speech marking the party’s 34th anniversary, al-Yadoumi said, “Islah has paid a heavy price for standing on the right side of history, on the side of the nation, and the legitimate government supported by Yemen’s brothers and friends, in order to restore the state and end the Houthi coup and rebellion.”
He added that Islah is one of the most important political pillars in supporting the state and its national institutions to protect the gains of the revolution and the republic at various turning points.
The Yemeni politician pointed out that “with the return of the new Imamate represented by the Houthi terrorist group and its coup against the state and national consensus, Islah declared its firm position rejecting the coup and rebellion, and sided with the state and legitimacy, as well as democratic methods of work and national consensus as the only way to achieve political change, and dedicated its capabilities and resources to serving the national goals for which all free Yemenis struggle.”
Al-Yadoumi hailed the sacrifices made by Yemenis to restore the state and end the coup and rebellion, and expressed his appreciation for the leadership, bases, supporters, and all free people who reject the projects of priesthood, despotism, and the Houthi apparatus of repression and terrorism.
Al-Yadoumi affirmed that the release of all detainees, foremost among them the party leader Mohamed Qahtan, is the initial step towards any peace process, and urged human rights institutions and media to intensify efforts to highlight the issue of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons.
Al-Yadoumi called on the government to provide all forms of care for their families and to work quickly to release them, and to annul the decisions of physical liquidation taken by the Houthi terrorist militia against some of them.
Al-Yadoumi renewed Islah’s condemnation of the practices of the Houthi group in kidnapping international organization employees, activists, and opinion leaders in areas under its control.
The head of the Supreme Council of the Yemeni Islah Party renewed the party’s position in support of all efforts to achieve peace and stability, in accordance with the three references, foremost of which is UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and other relevant resolutions.
Al-Yadoumi affirmed that a just and sustainable peace that guarantees the non-recurrence of wars cannot be achieved except by disarming the Houthi group, which threatens the security and stability of Yemen and the region, and considering its possession of weapons as an exclusive right of the state and its official institutions.
Islah renewed its condemnation of terrorist operations in all their forms and manifestations, and called on the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to support security and the armed forces, and to develop official state apparatuses to be able to confront terrorist threats, security imbalances, kidnappings, and political assassinations that have targeted a number of political figures and social personalities.
The head of the Supreme Council of the Yemeni Islah Party, Mohamed Abdullah al-Yadoumi, emphasized the need for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to take the necessary measures to stop the economic collapse and mitigate its negative effects on Yemeni families in all parts of Yemen.
Al-Yadoumi called for the speedy reform of revenue sources, the activation and organization of customs and taxes, the resumption of oil and gas production and export, the activation of mechanisms to combat corruption and hold the negligent accountable, the rationalization of government spending, and the improvement of the living standards of citizens and basic services to achieve the decent life they deserve.
Al-Yadoumi stressed the need to expand the participation of political parties and empower parliament and all state institutions to carry out their work from within Yemen.
Al-Yadoumi welcomed the meeting of political parties and forces that was held in the temporary capital of Aden in April, with the aim of establishing a broad national coalition that includes all forces committed to restoring the state and ending the Houthi coup.
