Qatari Prime Minister: Keen to Expand Partnership with Yemeni Government

The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed on Sunday his country’s continued support for Yemen and its people, and its keenness to expand the framework of partnership with the Yemeni government and to reach a solution that ends the Yemeni crisis.

This came during a bilateral Yemeni-Qatari meeting in the capital, Doha, chaired by Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

According to the official Yemeni news agency, the Prime Minister briefed his Qatari counterpart on the latest developments in the Yemeni arena and the government’s ongoing tracks to address various challenges and reforms being implemented within the framework of the general orientation to enhance transparency, accountability, and combating corruption.

It added that “the discussions touched on peace efforts, the roadmap, developments in the Red Sea, and the Houthis’ false narratives linking the escalation and Houthi piracy against commercial ships to what is happening in Gaza.”

The Prime Minister praised the level of Yemeni-Qatari relations and the joint keenness to advance them to broader horizons of development and establish development and investment partnerships in promising sectors, serving the mutual interests of the two brotherly countries and peoples.

Bin Mubarak appreciated the Qatari position in supporting the Yemeni people and its government in various circumstances and conditions, and its prompt response to support those affected by the recent rains that swept through a number of Yemeni governorates.

According to the official agency, the two sides discussed a number of recent developments on the national and regional arenas, most notably the developments in Palestine in light of the continued Israeli war and the genocide crimes it commits against the Palestinian people, and the ongoing Qatari efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

In a related context, Bin Mubarak discussed with the leadership of the Qatar Fund for Development, headed by the Acting Director-General of the Fund, Sultan Al-Asiri, areas of cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development in the country development, service, and humanitarian aspects, and mechanisms for the required qualitative interventions during the coming period, in line with the government’s priorities, especially in the field of electricity, in addition to the ongoing projects, and mechanisms for coordination with the government to identify priority sectoral needs for urgent support, including supporting climate change adaptation programs.

The Yemeni Prime Minister was briefed by the Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development on the Fund’s plans to identify priority areas of support in Yemen, and to pay special attention to supporting efforts to increase electricity production capacity by relying on less costly alternatives.

Bin Mubarak praised “the efforts and keenness shown by the Qatar Fund for Development to implement a number of projects in priority areas that have a direct impact on supporting the government’s efforts to improve the living standards of citizens.”

The Prime Minister referred to “the government’s orientation towards activating and benefiting from economic sectors and promising mineral resources to build investment partnerships that achieve added value to improve the economic situation.”
