CENTCOM announced on Saturday that it had destroyed an Iranian-backed Houthi drone and support vehicle in Yemen.

It  stated in a press release that the drone and vehicle posed a clear threat to U.S. and coalition forces, as well as ships in the region.

The statement indicated that this action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for U.S. and coalition forces, as well as commercial vessels.

Meanwhile, an Australian institute has asserted that Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea reveal Iran’s covert hand behind these attacks.

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute added that a key element of the Houthis’ ability to maintain an updated maritime intelligence picture is what Iran provides, noting that the multinational presence in the Red Sea has failed to suppress Houthi attacks on commercial ships.

For its part, the Brookings Institution in the United States stated that while the Houthis benefit from Iranian support, Iran lacks control over the Houthis’ behavior.
