Yemeni Meteorological Center Warns of Lightning Storms

The National Center  of Meteorology and Early Warning in Yemen has emphasized the need to take precautions against lightning storms, warning citizens in areas expecting rainfall to avoid low-lying areas and flood channels.

The center also warned drivers on mountain roads about reduced visibility due to rainfall and the potential for rock slides and landslides.

The meteorological agency predicted partly cloudy skies gradually turning overcast with varying intensities of thunderstorms in parts of Taiz, Ibb, Dhamar, western Sana’a, Amran, Rima, Hajjah, Mahwit, and Saada governorates, extending westward to parts of the Tihama coastal plain highlands. Scattered rains, accompanied by occasional thunder, are expected in parts of Lahj, Al Dhale’a, Al Bayda, Abyan, Shabwah, Hadramaut, and Al-Mahra governorates.

It indicated partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with the possibility of scattered rainfall in parts of the eastern, southern, and western coasts and parts of  Tihama coastal plain, with strong winds around Socotra archipelago reaching speeds of 40 knots, and moderate to strong winds in the Gulf of Aden and the eastern and southern coasts, ranging between 15-25 knots.

In desert areas, the meteorological center forecast clear to partly cloudy skies with the formation of cumulus clouds that may include cells of rainy clouds over Al-Mahra and Hadramaut governorates, with moderate winds that may become active at times, causing dust storms and sandstorms.

Its worth mentioned here that Yesterday, Thursday, five citizens, including three children, died from lightning strikes in various parts of the country.
