Yemeni Gas Company Denies Issuing License to Exploded Aden Gas Station

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom

The Yemeni Gas Company announced on Saturday that it had not issued a license to the unauthorized gas station that exploded on Friday evening in Al-Mansoura district in the temporary capital, Aden, resulting in deaths, injuries, and significant material damage.

The company explained in a statement that it had contacted the local authorities in the liberated governorates (from the Houthis) and the temporary capital, Aden, urging them to remove unauthorized gas stations in residential areas, neighborhoods, and districts that do not meet safety and security standards and do not hold any licenses to operate from the company.

The company called on relevant authorities to cooperate in removing all gas stations that violate the law, in the interest of the public and private sectors.

Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak had issued a decree on Saturday to form an investigation committee into the gas station explosion in Al-Mansoura district and submit a report on the incident within five days.

He also directed a team from the Central Audit and Accountability Authority to verify the extent to which licenses issued for the establishment of gas stations comply with the standards and conditions stipulated by law.

Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak had visited the site of the incident and listened to the measures taken by the competent authorities to contain the fire.

Bin Mubarak directed “a comprehensive review of licenses granted to gas stations, especially in residential areas, and an investigation of violators and holding them accountable for failing to adhere to occupational safety standards.”

The Yemeni Prime Minister stressed the need to punish any official “found to be involved in granting licenses for gas stations in residential areas in violation of professional safety procedures and standards, and the serious risks this poses to residents.”
