Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak issued a decree on Saturday to form an investigation committee into the explosion of a gas station in Mansoura district in the temporary capital, Aden, which resulted in several deaths, injuries, and material damage.
The decision stipulated the formation of an investigative committee headed by the director-general of the Yemeni Oil and Gas Corporation, with members representing the ministries of legal affairs, human rights, justice, interior (civil defense), and the general department of criminal evidence, as well as the local authority in Aden governorate.
The committee is tasked with conducting the investigation, determining the circumstances of the gas filling station explosion in Al-Mansoura district of Aden governorate, and submitting a report on its findings and recommendations to the Prime Minister within a period not exceeding five days from the date of the decision, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.
In this context, bin Mubarak directed the head of the Central Audit and Accountability Authority to assign a team of experts from the authority to go to the Yemeni Gas Company to review all licenses issued for the establishment of gas stations, starting from 2016 until the present date.
The directive emphasized that the audit and accountability authority team must ensure that the licenses issued for the establishment of gas stations comply with the standards and conditions stipulated by law.
He stressed the importance of promptly informing the Prime Minister of the results, so that strict measures can be taken against violators.
The Yemeni Prime Minister had previously visited the site of the incident caused by the explosion of a tanker at a gas station at the Hashed-Line 90 intersection in Al-Mansoura, and listened to the measures taken by the competent authorities to contain the fire, which resulted in three deaths and a number of injuries. He also directed the assessment of the damages caused by the explosion.
During his visit, the Yemeni Prime Minister stressed the need to punish any official found to be involved in granting licenses for gas stations in residential areas in violation of professional safety procedures and standards, and the serious risks this poses to residents.
