State of Confusion Among the Houthies Over an Explosion in a School Western Sana’a
Yemen Monitor /Sana’a/Exclusive:
The Houthi armed group has been caught contradicting itself over an explosion that injured 30 students at a school in Bani Matar district, west of the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, which is under their control.
On Sunday, the Houthis attributed the explosion to remnants of an airstrike by the Saudi-led Arab coalition supporting the internationally recognized government during years of war. However, on Monday, they reversed their story, claiming that the explosion at Al-Qalisi Elementary School was caused by a student bringing an explosive device to school from a nearby area. They added that the explosion occurred due to the student and other students tampering with the device.
The explosion resulted in injuries to over 30 students under the age of seven.
The Houthis often use schools to train their forces and as storage facilities for weapons and landmines that they plant on battlefronts.
