Major Escalation: Houthis Target Safir Oil Facility with Three Drones
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom
In a dangerous escalation, the Yemeni army announced on Friday that it had intercepted three suicide drones launched by the Houthi group targeting the Safir oil facility in Marib (eastern Yemen).
The Yemeni Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, in a statement, said that “the Houthi terrorist militia, supported by the Iranian regime, launched three suicide drones carrying high explosives today, Friday, targeting Safir oil facility in Marib Governorate in a cowardly terrorist attempt to destroy this vital civilian facility.”
The statement confirmed that “the army forces managed to shoot down these drones before they could achieve their criminal goals.”
The statement explained that “these hostile drones were launched from a point located between the areas of Dhahida and Qarn al-Sai’ri, east of the city of Al-Hazm in Al-Jawf Governorate, which is under the control of the enemy (Houthis).”
The statement emphasized “the readiness of the Yemeni army to respond to such actions that target the interests of the Yemeni people and its sovereign economic facilities.”
This escalation is the most dangerous of its kind since the armed group targeted oil ports in Shabwa and Hadramaut governorates in November and October 2022, forcing the Yemeni government to halt oil exports.
